A transition to work programme for young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism
Project SEARCH is a one-year internship programme for students with learning disabilities and/or autism, whose goal is competitive employment in the community.
Astrum Multi Academy Trust have partnered with Project SEARCH, the London Borough of Redbridge and Barking Havering & Redbridge NHS Trust to provide supported internship opportunities.
Supported by a Job Coach and Tutor, students participate in three internships within the hospital to explore a variety of career paths, learning transferable work skills as they go.
Internships within the hospital could include Portering, Catering Assistant, Receptionist, Admin Assistant, Data Entry Assistant, Stores Assistant, Ward Assistant, assisting in departments such as X-Ray and Eye Treatment.
A typical day includes:
Independent travel to the internship site
9:00 to 10:00 Classroom lessons in employability and independent living skills.
10:00 to 15:00 Unpaid internship at a facility or department
Interns have lunch in the hospital canteen, participate in meetings and social events with their colleagues.
15:00 to 16:00 Classroom time to discuss and debrief
To apply you need to:
- Be available 5 days a week
- Be in Years 13 & 14 from September 2023, with an EHCP
- Be ready to move into the world of work
- Be able to travel independently or ready to travel train
- Be available to attend a 3 week induction program from the middle of August
- Have achieved Entry Level 3 in English and Maths
